On today’s show floor Water Pik’s VP of Marketing, Jay McCulloch, revealed that its flossing alternative formerly known as just the Waterpik has reinvented itself as the Waterpik Water Flosser. McCulloch said Waterpik’s purpose was being misunderstood by many consumers.
“The principle reason for the name change was that a lot of consumers didn’t understand how the product fit into their oral care routine,” McCulloch said. “They would think, “Why do I need another device?”
According to studies done by the American Dental Association, only 12 percent of patients floss daily.
“The AAP studies show that 75 percent of Americans have some form of gum disease,” McCullouch said. “There’s a lot of people out there who need to do more. “We want them to know there’s an option.”
Fort Collins, CO-based Water Pik will make the official name change announcement in May. McCulloch said the company wants to support the dentists.
“We’re announcing it to the dental professionals because we wanted to give advanced notice to the dentists and hygienists,” McCulloch said. “We want to partner with the dental community. “We thought the Chicago Midwinter would be a great meeting to do this.”
